Stratton Mountain, partially in the town of Stratton, is crossed by the Appalachian Trail. It is also home to the Stratton Mountain fire tower, as well as Stratton Mountain Ski Resort, where Vermonter Jake Burton tested his new invention: the snowboard. Stratton was the first ski resort to allow snowboarding.
